Part-time Accounts Officer

Job details

After an initial period of training the post holder will be expected to make a strong contribution to their area of the business in providing the highest possible standards of service to the company's clients. There will be the opportunity to earn a bonus based on individual performance and the contribution made to the profitability of the business overall.

Role responsibilities

The successful applicant will be responsible for

- Basic Accounting work including the preparation of invoices, receipts, VAT returns, payroll and pensions payments, monitoring and managing debtors and the preparation of accounts to submit to the accountant for annual returns.

- Managing all administration matters concerning the organisation and running of seminars by the business.

- Preparing quotation letters in relation to new business.

- Preparing other letters to clients, suppliers etc as required for general running of the business.

- Liaising with clients and suppliers by telephone, e-mail or in person as required for the general running of the business.

- Carrying out reviews of alternative suppliers when contracts to provide services to the business come up for renewal.

- Performing other tasks that might reasonably be expected to be carried out by someone in this position.

Person specification

The successful applicant will need to have a high level of numeracy, accuracy and attention to detail in work carried out. The individual will need to have very strong organisational skills, be a confident communicator on the telephone, possess strong written comunication skills in relation to letter writing and emails, be hard working, highly self motivated and be able to efficiently manage competing priorities in relation to the work they are required to carry out.  They will further need to be able to demonstrate the highest levels of integrity and confidentiality when dealing with personal data. 

Skills and experience

Confident in using simple Excel spreadsheets and Microsoft Word is essential.

The ability to perform basic accounting functions.

Familiarity with and experience of using accountancy software (ideally Sage Instant Accounts).

Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential.

Proven ability to communicate clearly and effectively with clients, both in writing and on the telephone.

Ability to work closely and effectively with colleagues in a small team.

Hours and salary

20 hours per week over 4 days.

FTE £19,000 to £22,000 per annum based upon experience.

- Performing data collection work in relation to pensions on client files.  This will involve liaising with insurance companies, pension schemes, firms of solicitors and individual clients.

- Management of client case files including dealing efficiently with correspondence and monitoring deadlines.

- Preparing quotation letters in relation to new business.

- Preparing other letters to clients, suppliers etc as required for general running of the business.

- Liaising with clients and suppliers by telephone, e-mail or in person as required for the general running of the business.

- Performing other tasks that might reasonably be expected to be carried out by someone in this position.
